Blackmagic Fusion (formerly eyeon Fusion and briefly Maya Fusion, a version produced for Alias-Wavefront) is post-production image compositing developed by Blackmagic Design and originally authored by eyeon Software. It is typically used to create visual effects and digital compositing for movies, TV-series and commercials and employs a node-based interface in which complex processes are built up by connecting a flowchart or schematic of many nodes, each of which represents a simpler process, such as a blur or color correction. This type of compositing interface allows great flexibility, including the ability to modify the parameters of an earlier image processing step "in context" (while viewing the final composite). Upon its acquisition by Blackmagic Design, Fusion was released in two versions: the freeware Fusion, and the commercially sold Fusion Studio.

Fusion was originally developed in 1987 as in-house software developed for use by New York Production & Design (NYPD), a post production and visual effects boutique based out of Sydney, Australia. The very first version of the software was written in DOS and consisted of little more than a UI framework for quickly chaining together the output of pre-existing batch files and utilities. eyeon Software Inc. was formed specifically to commercialize Fusion, and all operations relating to the software were moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Fusion Studio coming to the MacBlackmagic was also demonstrating the next update to their recent software acquisition; the visual effects and motion graphics tool Fusion 8 Studio. While this version will add new features, perhaps the most notable change is that there will be a Mac version. Fusion 8 (the free version) and Fusion 8 Studio will be available sometime in Q3 this year, with a public beta available sometime before that. You can download Fusion 7 for Windows free now.
Reactor is a free, open-source package manager that I would recommend for both Fusion and DaVinci Resolve users. It streamlines the installation, distribution and management of third-party content like scripts, fuses, macros, templates and titles. With Reactor, you can install these with a click of a button, rather than having to download, copy and edit individual files manually.
Because DiskWarrior doesn't offer a free trial version, we had no other option but to purchase the full version. After completing our order, we were provided a download link and informed that we would also receive a copy of DiskWarrior on a USB flash drive within 1 or 2 business days.
Since we didn't want to wait for the USB flash drive to arrive, we downloaded the DiskWarrior installer using the provided download link. The installation process itself was painless, and we were ready to launch the software for the first time in no time.
You can now download both DaVinci Resolve 12.5 and DaVinci Resolve 12.5 Studio from Blackmagic Design's website. If you're a current Resolve customers, the update is free. If you're not, you're looking at $995 for DaVinci Resolve 12.5 Studio.
So I'm assuming the 12.5 version I downloaded a month or so ago was the beta version? I wonder what the difference would be between the two...probably making it more stable and finalizing the software I guess. One thing, I horizontal and vertical scrolling are now available using the scrolling wheel on the mouse. When I scroll it affects the track height. Does anyone know how to shift to horizontal scrolling of the timeline? Thanks, all!

Perhaps the biggest headline from NAB, the DaVinci Resolve 14 update is massive. Not only is the program 10x faster, it has also completely overhauled audio with the incorporation of the Fairlight audio panels and software. New modular audio panels will soon be available from Blackmagic. Resolve basic is still free, but the company announced a price drop for the Studio version to $299.
In a move to compete with the free access to DaVince Resolve, AVID reached out to student filmmakers with a free version of their Media Composer NLE. The stripped-down version is still full of features like editing, color grading, and effects. Avid Media Composer First will be available to download for free in June 2017. 2ff7e9595c
